Chrysanthemums are familiar to almost everyone. But most people, we would wager, still believe that chrysanthemums stop at the big yellow and white heads we all used to buy at street kiosks in the early 2000s. In truth the world of chrysanthemums is wide and at times astonishing.
What kinds of chrysanthemum are there?
Beyond the ordinary varieties we are all used to, chrysanthemums fall into several types, each holding many varieties of its own.- Ball chrysanthemums. We have allowed ourselves this free name for them, because they really do look like neat, dense spheres. They work well not only in mono bouquets but in mixed ones too, thanks to their unusual shape and texture. This type includes the varieties Momoko, Boris Baker and Ping Pong
- Vienna. The most unusual chrysanthemum in our catalogue. Its petals recall the claws of some alien creature, or the curled coiffure of a lady of the last century. You can study the flower head for a long time and invent associations, but one thing is certain: Vienna is very beautiful. It comes in caramel, lilac and lemon shades
- Bigoudi. A neat chrysanthemum of medium size, restrained and refined in appearance. It comes in dark violet and chocolate
- Santini. Neat spray chrysanthemums. Their flower heads are smaller and more charming than those of the ordinary spray kinds. Their forms and varieties seem beyond counting, and one short paragraph cannot hold them all
Why order a bouquet of chrysanthemums?
First, chrysanthemums are hardy. They always stand in the first rank on any list of the longest-lasting flowers. A bouquet like this will please the recipient for a long time.Second, it is a good choice if you want to surprise the recipient. Imagine the delight of someone studying the flower head of a Vienna chrysanthemum.
When are chrysanthemums in season?
Many varieties are available all year round. Santini and Momoko, for instance, can be ordered on almost any day of the year, barring the occasional force majeure.Bigoudi appears more often in the cold months and disappears altogether in summer. Rare varieties such as Vienna are available for a few months of the year, starting in September.
Autumn is the best time for chrysanthemums. October and November bring us the largest number of varieties and types, and the rarest and most unusual of them are available only then.
